BPM Doc Merge

Hi,

SugarCRM 12 Enterprise

I am trying to use SugarBPM to create a PDF with Doc Merge and then email it out.

I have dropped an action widget on to my design canvas and configured it for 'Doc Merge' by adding my template and ticking the PDF checkbox.

I fired the process and it completed without any errors, but I cannot see where the PDF document has gone (it is not in the Documents module) and I cannot see how I can get hold of the resulting PDF in BPM to email it out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • The merged document is saved as a record of module Document Merge, whose id is returned by POST /DocumentMerge/merge

    Thank you for your reply.

    I am not sure how Sugar intended the Doc Merge action in BPM is supposed to work.  I would like to handle the resultant merged document directly in the process and my aim is to email it out, but that does not seem possible.

    I tried to do a GET on module DocumentMerge, by changing the URL to <site address>/#DocumentMerge but that does not exist.  

    Creating a merged document in the BPM and then having to fish it out using the API is really awkward and I would not know how to identify which document relates to which, say, Account.  I would not think this is how Sugar intended the BPM function to be used?

    The BPM Action settings allow for that, so rather than assume anything can I check you did the following:

    I am using Enterprise V12 and the widget settings seem a bit different:

    Yes, I have set the Action widget to Doc Merge


    Setting only give me the following options, there is no dialogue to add an email template.

    It seems you are using the wDocs add on, rather than the new built in Doc Merge

    Yes my example is from Enterprise self hosted, hence only had the wDocs addon option for some time.

    Regardless, I am surprised the action widget options have changed so much as to exclude the part for emailing the merged document.

    It isn't mentioned in the following knowledgebase highlighting the differences between the 2 versions.

    Suggest logging a support ticket, unless somebody else here knows how to configure the new version for this requirement.

  • Good call out! There is already a bug for this feature, bug # 89138, if you would like to contact Support to express your interest in that capability. The team is aware that it's a valuable feature that wasn't brought over when wDocs was brought into Sugar though and hopefully we will see it added soon enough!

    I'll also make sure we update that article to mention it too, thanks for mentioning that.

    When you say hope to see it soon, can you help push for this to be resolved for v12.0.1 please, as otherwise I see lots of unhappy customers that are already using this feature with wDocs and v11 and then break it on upgrade?

    Other differences that could break existing wDocs user experience are:

    • Ability to Generate Labels
    • Categories for Templates

    Ability to Generate Labels is available, you need to Doc Merge and select the checkbox Label Merging

     

    Categories is an open subject - thank you for highlighting it, we will consider this feature for one of our next releases, as we want our customers to be comfortable using Doc Merge.
