It would be nice to have the ship to state on an opportunity so that the list view could be filtered for sales reps to easily find the information they need. Is this possible or what are potential work arounds?

Hi James,
You can add a State field in Studio. Perhaps as a Text field (you may want to set is as two characters for force the use of the abbreviation), or you could make it a drop-down if you'd like to do that. Be sure to add the field to the Search and List View layouts.

I know I can add the field, but I need it to pull from the customer record that's associated with the opportunity
Define the field with the "Calculated Value" option enabled and then create a SugarLogic formula that pulls the State value from the linked Account. That would automatically populate it with the State value from the Account record, even if an update happens at the Account level.
A similar example is documented here:
https://support.sugarcrm.com/knowledge_base/studio_and_module_builder/sugar_logic/sugar_logic_walkthrough_related_module_formulas/#Use_Case
This is prefect! I should have thought about this.
Is there any way to bulk update records. I would assume any new opportunity will have the customers state, and I can get it on the existing opportunity by editing and saving. Just curious if there was some sort bulk operation for this.
Thanks again for the help.
Hi James,
The "trick" I use to do this is to do a mass update of some other field in the records - setting it to the existing value so there's no real change...

If you have admin or developer privileges, you can go to the Opportunities module ListView, select the records you wish to update and then use the option "Recalculate Values" to trigger the update.
Note that the batches will be limited to 1000 records.
Alternatively, triggering a save on either the Account or Opportunity records, as suggested by Bud, will update the value.
