Reassigning accounts (and associated records like contacts/opportunities)

mhm I would solve it on a dirty way:

1. create a textfield 'copykey_c' on accounts and make it available for mass updates

2. create a textfield 'copykey_c' on each module where I want to move records and read the copy key from the linked account using calculated values

3. move all 'copykey_c' fields to the available fields of the search fo making them available on filters

4. go to accounts and filter for the accounts you want to move to the new user and run a massupdate on copykey_c with a string like "John Doe"

5. go to contacts module, select for all records having copykey_c = "John Doe" and reassign to the new user

Please note that, depending on the amount of attached records to an account, this can take some time and could have impact on the performance of the database. Also on RLI and Opportunities you can run into isues in case of the amount of an OPP or RLI is 0$ as it creates division by zero errors and the calculation of fields fails.

Use built-in functionality

Go to Admin > Users >> Reassign Users, then select all the modules and statuses for each module (useful to exclude closed Opportunities)

Does the bunch of accounts to reassign include ALL the accounts that belong to the user or just a subset? 

All accounts, but you can filter based on account type. Each module allows for a select group of filters. Agree, this is about administering of retiring process. 

Nevertheless, with proper configuring Sugar platform can do more automation then reassignement of the account and records related on the basis of just one account type field.

yep, that was my first idea but then I realized I can't filter for account details on other modules here.

Thanks for the response - the problem is I only want to reassign some accounts (and the respective contacts/opportunities) that meet a certain criteria - in this case the post/zip code.

I would suggest to create a multienum field 'Reassign Related Records' with options (Opportunities, Contacts etc) on Accounts module and make it available on MassUpdate.

Create a SugarBPM definitions which listen for updates on that field and reassign related records accordingly.

Once selecting this field at MassUpdate view your SugarBPM process will evaluate which options has been selected and then update assigned_user on all related records with respect to selected option. Remember to clean up that field before finishing the SugarBPM process.
