Scoring profiles for accounts - General advice

Hello again

I have a few questions about best practices for lead scoring.

1. My client would like to identify the main schools (accounts) that have been interacting with them, what would be the best way of doing so?

2. I'm not sure I understand how the scoring profile for accounts works, is it the summation of the contact's score within the account? e.g. Person A has 10 points and Person B has 20 points = Account 30 points ??

3. What would be some best scoring practices for my client (general recommendations), now that they want to target and market to various different schools in their state?

Thank you

  • Hi Elizabeth,

The best way to target accounts with Lead Scoring is to use the Account scoring option within a Contact profile. You can check this box for one Contact Scoring Profile (should you be running multiple scoring models), so you typically want to check this for your main Contact Scoring Profile.

The easiest way to understand this feature is that it averages the scores of the contacts associated to a particular account and assigns that score to the account. We do account for contacts with scores of "0" or null scores, so the math is more complicated than just an average, but that is the easiest way to understand it. In your example in question #2, if those were the only two contacts associated to that account, then the account would have a score of 15.

For general recommendations, I recommend viewing our Lead Scoring Guide available here: https://www.sugarcrm.com/resources/lead-scoring-101/

    Thanks!
