Does anyone connect to Power BI for reporting?

Hi there-

We are considering getting data out of Sugar to Power BI to perform more extensive reporting. We have exhausted our efforts to use the existing reporting tools and need to use an alternate tool to get the reports/dashboards we need.

If you use Power BI, do you use a third-party connector to get the data to Power BI?

Do you export to a cloud based data warehouse, then connect Power BI to it?

Would appreciate any suggestions and insights!

  • Hi Kimberly – we have a number of customers that use PowerBI to interrogate their Sugar instance data.  At Sugar, we sell a particular tool called “sTransit for DataMarts” which is used to extract data from your SugarCloud instance and pre-formats it into a PowerBI ready datamart.  There are some costs associated with purchasing the tool and you will need an environment to host the datamart outside of SugarCloud.  For more details, I’d suggest you connect with your Customer Success Manager or reach out directly to Deb Drakeford ddrakeford@sugarcrm.com

  • Thanks Chris.  Kimberly, I would be happy to connect with you on what we have done for some other customers. I will reach out to you via email on this.  Thank you.

  • Hi  - I'm looking to do the opposite and wondering if you know if there is an integration for that? We want to publish PowerBI reports in an iFrame to a Sugar module.

  • Hi Holiday,

There is an iFrame field type available in Studio.  If you create an iFrame field, you can put it on the layout and show the content within the module record view.

If you want to do the same thing, on a dashboard or dashboard on the side of the record view you can add the "Web Page" dashlet.

For both of these options you will need to add the URL which you're loading data from to your CSP (Content Security Policy) settings in the Admin panel.

    I hope that helps!

  • Thank you! That does help.
