Outlook Plugin to Sugar Connect

I have the same concern.  We change the subject line for consistency also and surprised that the feature was not there.

At this time, Sugar Connect does not provide a way to edit an email's subject or body before it is archived into Sugar. This was a conscious decision to preserve the integrity of the email as it is saved into Sugar.

What is the desired outcome of changing the subject? You mention changing the subject of the email for consistency. Is this to help with searching for an email at a later point? Is there some sort of naming convention or process you use in your organization? 

Its very important that this feature is made available.  We may get a PO from a customer with a subject line of "Happy Birthday" be cause it was a string of emails that started with that subject line.  By changing the subject line to "PO#12345.  we are able to search for that PO#.  We use it as a tool because many people can archive emails to an account.  Sales will put their initials in the beginning of the subject line so they can filter easier and find all of the emails they initiated.  The pricing area may use PRICE or RFQ.  We use it as a "Reason" for that email to be archived.  It can say "Answer" or "Question", etc.  It is used in many ways to find emails that may be done weeks or months before.

Totally agree with Mark we change the subject line to ensure consistency across our accounts and enable us to find key emails quickly.

I am surprised this issue has not been raised before and is not highlighted in any of the guidance notes comparing the plugin to Sugar Connect.  This for us seems a very backward step.

Not an ideal solution but a possibility, if you forward an email you wish to archive to one of your accounts it enables you to change the subject line, then using archive with options on the second tab select the account or person you wish to archive this email to.  Downside it does away with the history of who you are communicating with but enables you to quickly see using your own terms what emails are coming and going.

As i say not a great solution, but a possibility.

My team has just found a better workaround than the one previously mentioned.  If you pop out the email in outlook you can actually type over the subject line before archiving.  Hope this helps.

We will definitely take this enhancement request under advisement. I can see and understand how OPI enabled your use cases.

I will say that Sugar Connect gives you the ability to search for other records to relate the email to when archiving a message. You could relate the email to an opportunity, for example, and easily find the email while viewing the opportunity. The archived email is assigned to the person that archived it so they can easily filter down to emails assigned to them instead of relying on initials in the subject line.

Just to add another use case to that: When creating a ticket from a Case, our Technical Support team is adding small tags to the subject line, that we then use as starting criteria for a BPM process that handles these Emails (or rather, the Cases), in a speecific way (setting statuses, assignees, close dates etc.)

E.g. if they add the word/tag "ts.short", the resulting Case is immediately closed, the close date is set, the prioirty set to Medium etc.

.  I really think that the concept of altering the subject line is not solution.  Sugar Connect should be following the premise that is used in Documents sub panel.  Each email is named and the default name is the subject line.
