Change system/default currency to AUD

How do I change the system/default currency to AUD?

Even as an admin I don't seem to be able to update the the system/default currency.

Thanks in advance!

  • I've not needed to change default currency but I would investigate a few things before doing this:

    - Out of the Box Sugar translates all non-USD amounts to USD amounts based on currency conversion rates.
Does changing the default currency to AUD make fields like quotes.deal_tot_usdollar actually be AUD amount? Sounds like the field could end up being a confusing misnomer.

    - Are you doing this just so your users have AUD as default currency? Because they can each set that in their profile.

    - Are you doing this AFTER you started working with Sugar? If so what happens to the data that is already there, like quotes.deal_tot_usdollar amounts? I doubt there is something to translate them to AUD and make that field make sense in the long term... or does Sugar add a quotes.deal_tot_audollar?

Maybe I'm overthinking this... but I've had to jump trough some not-so-pretty hoops in the past to report in original currency vs USD (and possibly regretting some choices...)... so messing with currency always makes me nervous.

  • Hi Francesca, (Mark/Chris),

in my experience, YES, fields such as `quotes.deal_tot_usdollar` are actually now AUD, or whatever you've set this default currency to.

Doing this BEFORE letting users work in the system is VERY MUCH recommended.

Also, Chris, how did you rename your default currency from `US Dollars (Default)` to `System Currency (Default)`?

Whenever we edit that name of the default currency it shows us this US Centric view of the world and renames it self back to `US dollars (Default)`.

  • All fields named *_usdollar are fields containing the DEFAULT currency. It does not matter whether this default curreny is USD, EUR; AUD, GBP, DEQ, or what else.

Any local currency is always based on the current exchange rates. Sugar has no currency rates history. The exchange rates are always the exchange rates to the default currency.
