Users receive notifications when they are mentioned by another user in a comment log entry of any Sugar record. Beyond that use case, admin users will also receive a notifications pertaining to system configuration issues (e.g. configuring the system outbound email account). 

If you are looking for more robust functionality, we have a product, Upsert Notifications, which augments the existing feature in Sugar to give you some new options such as:

• Scheduled notifications
• Different notification types (email, pop-up, and notification bubble)
• Notification read receipts
• Ability to snooze notifications
• Include attachments on notifications
• Deliver notifications to specific users, teams, and roles

We'd be happy to demo the product for you if it serves a need. If there is specific functionality you are looking for that we aren't yet meeting, we'd also like to hear from you to see if it is something we can plan towards an upcoming release.
