PJ Haftbaradaran from our UX team wrote New and Improved flexible dashboards a few months back explaining some of these updates. In previous versions, users could re-arrange the dashlets, but couldn't resize them. In the new experience, the option to resize them was added, but it just gives more flexibility to users to configure their individual experiences. Is it negatively affecting something for you or your users? Thank you!

I second Alex's point that the new dashboard are a vast improvement over the previous versions. There is still (a lot of) room, but that's a good step.
When we get requests for such changes, we tend to insist on the cost of both implementing the change AND of maintaining it in future versions. The ROI is often bad :)

Just to give some context, the problem with the resizable dashlets is that they are causing a very annoying behavior for users that work with a mouse without a scroll wheel or the ability to scroll using a mouse pad.
