When creating a report using date field, does "Today" update each time report is run?

Say I create a report that need to be run at the end of a business day to reflect that day's activities. In the report criteria screen, when selecting "Today" for the date, it inputs today's date. If I make this report run on a schedule with no user input (so the run-time box would not be of much help), does selecting "Today" update the field everytime the reports runs as scheduled?

  • Hi Michael McPeak ,

Yes, when selecting dynamic filters such as Today, This Month, Next Quarter, etc., the scheduled report will filter relative to each day the report is generated.

  • Thank, I assumed this was the case, but could not find the answer anywhere. I don't know why they don't just leave the criteria display to read "today" instead of putting the date there, then there would be no question.

  • To clarify, Michael McPeak -

As you describe that selecting the "Today" button inputs the current date, you may be using the wrong "Today" option. There is a "Today" button that pops up when you are using the "On" a specific date filter, like below:

Clicking "Today" in that context would input today's date, but it would not dynamically update and would actually remain the date that was originally entered.

It sounds like you are looking for this today option, if you click the "On" dropdown:

This is the selection that will dynamically update today's date so that you do not have to change it.

  • It would be nice if the functionality worked as Chris suggested......then we could use the "Before" and "After" operator AND the value TODAY.  For example, show me all Opportunities with an Expected Close Date BEFORE TODAY, or LAST MONTH, or LAST YEAR, etc.

  • Seconded. This would be beneficial to have an automatic report generation showing what we're late on and what needs to be updated.
