You should be able to add the salutation and name by adding the field variables while composing the email template. See the screenshot for reference:
When the "Contact/Lead/Target" modules are selected, you can choose the field that you would like to insert into the template. The list of fields is stored in the second column in the screenshot above, and once you select a field, the variable for that field displays in the third column.
