How to import french/spanish alphabets/characters?

Hello all,

I am using SugarCRM CE 6.5.x version. I am importing record in contacts where the contact name in french/spanish language. While importing record, on step 1, i can see same name which as in csv file.

But on step 3, I am seeing some different characters in the place some french/spanish alphabets/characters.

So, kindly guide me, how to import these french/spanish alphabets/characters as it is. Thank you.

2 checks
1. Import file should be UTF-8 encoded
2. Import properties(View Import File Properties) should have UTF-8 encoding selected (File Encoding)
Let me know if that works.

Thanks for the reply. May i know, how can we save file to .csv format with UTF-8 encoding selected? Or how can we check whether the imported file is in UTF-8 encoded format?

Hello,
Open the .csv file in Notepad++
Encoding > Convert to UTF-8 > Save
And try importing again.

Hello Hash,
Thanks for the reply. It worked, but not a good option for us. Can you tell how we can achieve the same without using any tool other than Microsoft Excel?

Hello Hash,
Nevermind, i found the solution. I just added some code in sugarcrm core file. But it's not a upgrade safe, nor it is verified and tested for a long run. After added this, no need to take care of encoding. But need to check whether it will affect other functionality as I don't have much time now to go through code and check it. Still, thank you.
