To keep a long story short, this article does not work in my v9 instance (perhaps some custom extension functionality has been deprecated since v7?)
Any ideas? Thanks all!

Francesca Shiekh do you perhaps have an idea here. I see this older blog post refers to updates from joinRaw to joinTable, but that's still 7.x.
Thanks either way!
In my case I was using it for a subpanel on a flex-relate and I found a much better workaround:
What is the best way to add a subpanel(?) for module related via flex relate?
There is an example of how to use JoinTable here:
I think that is still the recommended solution in v9
Sorry I could not be of more help. You could try searching the community by "JoinRaw" there are several threads about it, maybe one of them contains a solution.

Nicholas Dohmen, what issue are you running into with the code from that old blog post?
Thanks Francesca Shiekh! I'm trying to avoid a flex relate as it gives the user the opportunity to select the module they want to relate to and I'd like to force them to select a specific (custom) module (hence the relate field).
I'll go back to the custom subpanel posts that use joinTable (joinRaw) and will customise from there.
Thanks again!
