Privacy regulations and GenAI, can they co-exist?

Today an ad on social media gave me pause.

The post simply pointed to a readily available tool that advertised itself as a tool that "makes it easy to ask questions to your data in natural language" and makes "data analysis conversational using LLMs".

Exciting, right?

But while SugarCRM went through great lengths to anonymize the data in their GenAI tools to protect the privacy of our customers and our data, not all tools will do that.

Companies with mildly tech-savvy and curious individuals may inadvertently be exposing their data and themselves to GDPR, CCPA and other privacy issues.

LLMs have to know your data before they can allow you to "ask questions to your data in natural language", and some tools could, potentially, take advantage.

So, as always, the weakest link is the human element, and the question is perhaps more of a philosophical one then a technical one: can GenAI and Privacy regulations co-exist?
