Mergtag for email click Alert Email to link back to record?

Hi! I have set up an alert email to notify the contact or lead owner when a person clicks a link in our emails.

I have set up two mergtags to bring in the name and the company name of the lead/contact, but I am wondering if there is a way to insert a direct link back to the record in Sugar of the person who clicked?

Right now I just have a link to the Sugar home screen where we instruct our sales people to use the top search bar to search for the name. If this could be more streamlined, that would be helpful. Thanks!

    That's a great idea! I checked our current Ideas in the system and don't see one related to this. I could see value in two merge tags here:

    1. The link goes to the record directly in SugarCRM.

    2. The link goes to the record directly in Market.

    This would give some more flexibility for clients to choose which link they would prefer; as I know some our clients sales team only live in SugarCRM, while others have some that access both.

    Another workaround you can use (this would apply to contacts or leads) is you can put this URL in your template:

    market.sugarapps.com/.../

    The merge tag of the ++ContactID++ will output their ContactID in the URL, which would be accurate and go directly to the Sugar Market record. They might need to be logged into Sugar Market first then click the link, but this could be a closer step that you could try to see what works best.

    If it makes sense, I'll go ahead and create a case and reach out to you with the idea request so we can link this to your account.

  • Hi Michael, thanks for your response! That's a good point about two different link options, one for CRM and one to Market. I think in our case a link back to the record in CRM would be beneficial to our sales team members since they don't have logins for Sugar Market. 

  • You're welcome! Thanks for confirming the use-case. As I was reading your question, I was reflecting on our general approach for clients, where typically, the marketing team uses Market and the sales team uses CRM.

    Hopefully, the workaround I mentioned will be helpful for now. You can use this URL, which will automatically fill in the ContactID merge tag, directing you straight to Market:

    https://market.sugarapps.com/webapp/#/crm/contacts-view/card/++ContactID++

    This next method might not be as effective in Sugar Sell because there are two distinct URLs for Leads and Contacts. However, I'll mention it just in case. You can use the ++Id++ merge tag, which is the CRM's unique ID, and fill it in the lead or contact URL:

    https://yourinstance.sugarondemand.com/#Leads/++Id++ https://yourinstance.sugarondemand.com/#Contacts/++Id++

    This could be a good alternative for clients who primarily work with leads or contacts, but if your records are mixed, it might not work in all scenarios. Just thought I’d share this to help with brainstorming some ideas.
