Outlook 2016 (win) (x86) Plug-in

OK, so again Sugar does not support the version of outlook installed from our 365 accounts, outlook 2016. I was told that my case was added to the Feature Request list, really? You are just not thinking about this? Yet another reason we will be moving away from our Professional license at some point.

Ok, sorry about the rant.........

So my reason for the post, has anyone gotten around this? I have 2 users who are left out right now and looking to me for a fix. I do know one thing, I upgraded my office to 2016 from 365 and the installed plugin kept working. So i'm thinking that if I can trick the installer into thinking that I have 2013 installed it would get past this issue. Any ideas on the reg key it looks at?

Thanks, Chris

  • Hi Chris,

We are indeed working on supporting Office 2016 for our OPI 2.1. Support for Office 16 will be in 1HCY2016.

Also, there is no tricking the installer about Office 2016 vs Office 2013 based on reg keys. Please do understand that we are not supporting Office 2016 as of yet for our plug-in so it can cause unintended consequences.

If there are any questions please do reach out to me.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Hi everyone,

We have several customers who have already upgraded to Outlook 2016, and as such can no longer use the Outlook/Sugar plugin. I logged a case with Sugar support, who have replied with the following:

Support for Windows 10 is being considered in the release after OPI 2.1 along with Office2016. The release is not planned yet but we hope to have that in the first half of 2016.

We are not overly happy about this, especially seeing as Office 2016 was released in September of 2015! However, there isn't much we can do unfortunately. Hopefully Sugar will *actually* release this in the first half of the year, and there won't be any delay...!

  • Hi Philippa,

Can you get an official ETA update on this please?
There is also some confusion with version numbers and acquisition methods from MS Office.

    i.e.

Office 365 is subscription, and it now includes all office 2016

As Sugar plugins state support Office 365, does that mean anyone buying Office/Outlook 2016 via the Office 365 subscription method will be fine on current plugins?

  • Hi Vincent,

OPI will be supporting specific version of Office, whether it is Office365 or Standalone/Desktop versions.

Office365 support for OPI is currently only for Office2013. So if you use Office2016 with Office365, OPI will not work. As is the case for the Desktop/Stand Alone suite of Office2016.

  • Hi Alay,

Thank you for replying to this thread.

I have an existing Sugar client who has upgraded to Exchange 365. They did so because Sugar says it supports Outlook 365 in the Supported Platforms page.

Plus, when Sugar users go to the Download tab in their instance of Sugar, they are presented with a 2010 version, a 2013 version, and a 365 version.  This, too, is misleading and providing a poor Customer Experience.

This is especially troubling because current 365 users installing Outlook have no choice but to install Outlook 2016. Can Sugar consider updating materials to specify which version of Office 365 we support?  It would go a long way if Outlook 365 support was broken out into Outlook 365 v2013 and Outlook 365 v2016, or some other differentiation that avoids this same thing happening every 2-3 years.

    Many thanks for you consideration.

  • Hi Davis,

Yes we can update the page with clarifying information. I can see how it creates confusion.
