BPM to inherit industry field from parent account

Hi!

We want to pull a dropdown field value from a parent account to its child accounts.

(For example, the industry of a child account should be the same as its parent). 

I tried to configure a BPM for this purpose. The issue I'm facing here is -

  • When I add the change field activity, it allows me only to add a static value there. (just 1 dropdown value)
  • How can I make it dynamic, so that whenever a child account record is saved, the industry and sub-industry values are added by default

Can you help me choose between BPM and a calculated field here? -> 

In case of a calculated field, 

  • A calculated field is a read-only field
  • This won't be ideal if I want to create a new company/ parent account.
  • How to solve this?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

    There is no native feature to copy dropdown values dynamically between fields in SugarBPM. One of the features of our plugin, Upsert BPM Essentials, is a custom action to dynamically copy dropdown values from one field to another. As long the originating and target field use the same dropdown list, you can use this custom action in your BPM definitions to remove the maintenance headaches your use case highlights.
