Sending email from Sugar.

When I use a template in an email out of Sugar, random " ' " are replaced by "?" (example: We?re). This doesn't happen when an email is manually keyed in Sugar or when the template is used with Gmail and Connect. I assume it is a Mailgun formatting issue? How can I fix?

  • Hi  ,

It sounds like the apostrophe may be not a standard straight apostrophe (in other words, a curly apostrophe). This typically happens when the text was originally drafted in another program that autoformat quotes and apostrophes to be curly. If you delete and re-enter the apostrophes in the Sugar email template editor, is the issue resolved?

  • The templates were written in Word, then copied and pasted into Sugar. If this is likely to cause funky formating issues, how do I avoid it? Is there a recommended method of creating an email template with characters like bullet points and checkmarks, different indentations, etc?

  • At least in regards to curly quotes/apostrophes, there should be a setting in Word's autoformat settings to use straight quotes and apostrophes. For bullets, I'm not sure if there is a solution other than reformatting the bulleted lists once they are copied into Sugar's email template editor.
