SugarCRM 8.0.3 upgrade to 9 MySQL utf8mb4 change

Hi everyone,

I have a question about the Sugar utf8mb4 requirements starting with version 9. As we see during our test upgrades, the upgrade script will try to convert encoding to the utf8mb4 encoding.

We tried to prepare for this by creating a slave MySQL server which already has the utf8mb4 encoding. However, MySQL will automatically convert all TEXT fields to MEDIUMTEXT in order to accomodate the extra space requirement. My tests show, that the upgrade script will then try to convert them back to TEXT, have you experienced this?

Has anyone been able to confirm that having utf8mb4 encoding with TEXT fields will be enough to hold all information in your previous instances, without getting any of the information lost/trimmed?

I appreciate your insights and help!
