ICYMI: Sugar 25.2 Developer Webinar Recap

The latest Sugar 25.2 release brings an extensive set of updates aimed at modernizing the platform, improving usability, and supporting new platform innovations. If you missed it, here’s a quick rundown of what we covered:

Key Announcements

One of the standout changes in this release is the modernization of the Dropdown Editor. It’s officially been moved from the legacy BWC framework into Sidecar, offering a more consistent and user-friendly admin experience. On the integration side, Sugar’s Google Drive connector now includes full support for Shared Drives and shared file access, significantly expanding how users can interact with their files inside the app. And in preparation for Microsoft’s planned deprecation of Basic Authentication for Exchange Online, Sugar now supports OAuth 2.0 for sending outbound emails via Exchange Online—ensuring continued compatibility and better security moving forward.

Feature Highlights

This release also introduces a number of enhancements aimed at improving day-to-day workflows. List View in Dashlets now support row-level actions, making it easier for users to interact with records without navigating away from their dashboard. Opportunity tracking gets a usability boost with the addition of visual indicators that help teams see how opportunities change over time. And working with related records in Focus Drawers is now much smoother, thanks to dynamic rendering for flex relate fields, which automatically displays the appropriate record view based on context.

Platform Updates

On the platform side, Sugar 25.2 includes behind-the-scenes updates that help maintain performance and compatibility. PHP libraries have been upgraded to the latest minor versions, and several JavaScript libraries have been patched—these updates are expected to have minimal impact but help keep the codebase stable, secure, and up to date. Scheduler jobs now run on a consistent UTC timezone, eliminating issues caused by timezone shifts. Additionally, the handling of system-level locks has been improved to prevent redundant processing after admin-triggered Quick Repair & Rebuild actions, reducing unnecessary server load and improving overall stability.
