ICYMI: Sugar 25.1 Developer Update Webinar Recap

On March 12, 2025, we hosted our first semi-annual Developer Update webinar, where we shared key updates, new features, and upcoming improvements. If you missed it, here’s a quick rundown of what we covered.

Key Announcements

With Release 25.1, we’re moving to a new schedule of two major releases per year, streamlining our product versioning to follow the Year.version.path format. This brings consistency across all Sugar products. On top of that, we announced an updated deployment timeline—by the end of April, all Sugar products will be available in every region we support.

SugarCloud has also received an upgrade to PHP 8.3.14. If you have customizations in place, make sure they are compatible with this version. To make things easier, you can leverage Rector to automate the upgrade process.

Feature Highlights

One of the most exciting new features is the 'Package Builder and Deployer,' which simplifies promoting changes across environments and enables the creation of industry-specific templates. We’ve also enhanced the Account module by adding a 'Last Interaction' field—no coding or configuration needed—including with a focus drawer for quick access. Reporting got a boost as well, with the introduction of unique reports to eliminate duplicate records, improving the overall user experience. AI and UI enhancements have also been a major focus, with a modernized interface that makes data more accessible and easier to consume in tabular formats.

Platform Updates

On the platform side, our engineering team ensured that all PHP and JavaScript upgrades in this release would not introduce backward incompatibilities. That’s great news for developers, as it means fewer disruptions when updating. We also refreshed our list of supported platforms, dropping outdated versions while adding support for the latest ones. And here’s something that should make life easier—Sell-Market integration is now built into the core product, eliminating the need for additional installations.

Actions from Q&A

We also took time to address some of your questions during the Q&A. Based on your feedback, we updated the Rector documentation to reflect the latest configurations used in SugarCloud. Moving forward, starting with v25.1, we recommend using the version of Rector that ships with Sugar—don’t worry, the updated instructions are already available. We also made enhancements to SugarDockerized, now supporting v25 with two distinct stacks—one maintaining the current platform lineup and another featuring the latest and greatest options.
