Looking for a quick solution for an auto generated email to a users manager when the user creates a new record or note.

    Use Workflows:

    Create a Workflow at Admin->Workflow Management
    Select Create Workflow Definition from the Menu
    Select Notes for the Target Module and Applies To: New Records Only
    Add a condition that "When the target module changes "
    In the alerts; create an alert
    when you select recipients; select "User who created the record"
    Then you'll have a choice
    "
    A user associated with the target module 
    User who created the record  using address type"

    Select "User" in the who created the record.

    Then you'll have a choice for User's Manager
