W-products in core Sugar for the W-in!

In 2020, SugarCRM acquired W-Systems, the then-largest global Sugar Elite partner. Since then, we have been working hard to incorporate their solutions into Sugar! In case you missed it, in the 11.1 (Q3 2021) release, we introduced Action Buttons, a new field type that lets users perform quick actions directly from records like sending an email, creating or editing a related record, or even opening an external web page. Action Buttons came from the custom button solution from W-Systems. Now, in the 11.2 (Q4 2021) release, we present Calendar and Doc Merge!

Calendar is based off the wCalendar product and available by default in all versions of Sugar 11.2+. Doc Merge was known as wDocs at W-Systems and is available exclusively to Sugar Sell and Serve customers. To find out all you need to know about these new features in Sugar, please refer to our Calendar and Doc Merge documentation located on our Support Site.

For those who may already be using wCalendar and wDocs, we have prepared Knowledge Base articles just for you to help compare and make the transition from wCalendar to Calendar and wDocs to Doc Merge.

  • Hello,

This is interesting news, thank you! Especially for wDocs of which I'm a big fan :) Also that contributes to bringing more value and differentiation into Sell/Serve.

I would just have a couple questions:

    1. Conditional statements are an absolute must in many document generation scenarios. Is that planned in future releases of Sell/Serve?
    2. Doc Merge and wDocs seem to be diverging (conception, design). Will wDocs continue to evolve in the foreseeable future or is it is being sunsetted? We still have several big, on prem projects on Enterprise that are far from ready to move to cloud.
    3. We need translations for these products: how could we collaborate so that each partner does not do the work on their own and have to maintain localization by themselves?
  • Hello ! We are so happy that you are pleased with the updates. Let me take a moment to address your concerns:

    1. Conditional statements are an absolute must in many document generation scenarios. Is that planned in future releases of Sell/Serve?
      1. Conditional statements actually are supported in the 11.2 Doc Merge feature for Sell/Serve if you are familiar with the required syntax and comfortable crafting the statements manually from scratch. It is simply the "builder" UI that is missing in the current release, so any conditional statements on your existing wDocs templates should migrate seamlessly to the new Document Templates module. We have updated the wDocs vs Doc Merge article to reflect this.
    2. Doc Merge and wDocs seem to be diverging (conception, design). Will wDocs continue to evolve in the foreseeable future or is it is being sunsetted? We still have several big, on prem projects on Enterprise that are far from ready to move to cloud.
      1. wDocs will remain available as an add-on product for purchase by Enterprise customers for the foreseeable future.
    3. We need translations for these products: how could we collaborate so that each partner does not do the work on their own and have to maintain localization by themselves?
      1. The new Calendar and Doc Merge functionality have undergone the standard translation process that core Sugar always undergoes at the end of a release cycle. Let me know if I misunderstand your concern so that I can bring any issue to the right team member.

Please also note that we have made a few updates to the two referenced KB articles above to clarify how the add-ons and the core functionality may or may not work together based on your concerns. Thank you for the thoughtful questions!

    Kind regards,
