how does oktopost and Sugar Market match social behavior and a lead/contact?

Hello,

If my understanding of how the integration between Sugar Market and Oktopost works, a marketing team can post a campaign on Linkedin and see if a known contact/lead has clicked on a post or reached a landing page.

My question is : how do Sugar Market match a known lead/contact with this behavior? Is it based on the email address, which means that this latter needs to be the same between social networks and the CRM one?

Thanks

Jean-Philippe

  • Hi Jean-Philippe,

When we establish the integration between Sugar Market and Oktopost we use the CName records that are configured for that particular customer. There is one for Oktopost specifically and also one for Sugar Market. This allows us to know which customer the post was created by. When the click information comes through, we will associate that to the lead/contact journey based on the email address associated to that record. Ultimately it is the cookies/CNames that allow us to know who is who, but our journey pulls exclusively on email address (to ensure the journey is consistent should you have duplicate records with the same email address).

    Thanks,

    Jana

  • Hi ,

Thank you for explaining those pieces! Can I please explore this a bit further? Lets assume the following conditions:

    • Jean-Philippe's campaign runs on LinkedIn
    • I'm in his database
    • I'm browsing LinkedIn on a new device/incognito (so no cookies from past browsing activity)
    • I see his Oktopost post on LI

At the point at which I click the post/reaches the LinkedIn page (but have taken no further action):

    • Does Sugar Market have visibility of it being me who has engaged with that post/reached the landing page? Or does SM just know that a LI campaign has sent an anonymous user to the landing page?
    • Does my logged in identity from LinkedIn play any role in any of the tracking in SM? If so, does it use the LI profile's email address?
    • Is it only if I fill out the form on the landing page (and use the same email address as what is in the SM database) does the whole chain of activity (click link on LinkedIn, hit the landing page and fill in the form) become associated with my record in SM?
    • Does any of the above change if I am using a browser which has cookies from past browsing activity?

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Hi Adam,

Here are my responses in order of your questions:

    • No, we would not know that it is you, as you would still be anonymous activity
    • No it does not
    • Yes, that's correct.
    • I'm not sure about this, it would have to be tested.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Adam and Jana,

Thank you for discussing important questions I always wanted to clarify!
Let me add a few, please.

In general, do activities are collected in the context of an anonymous ID, which is actually defined and maintained via cookies?

Do the activities specifically associated with that anonymous ID via nothing else but cookies, go to contact history as soon as an anonymous id record in the marketing automation database gets the PII (name/lastname/email/ect) on some landing page is submitted?

    Much appreciate,

    Best,
    Dmytro

  • Hi,

Thanks for your answers Jana and for your questions Adam and Dmytro.

If my understanding is correct, it means that SM will be able to know who has clicked on an oktopost link only if this contact has filled out a SM form with its email address, ideally its professional email address which will be the one usually known in the CRM.

    Thanks,

    Jean-Philippe
