How best to trigger a process when Opportunity Status changes to Closed Won?

Depend on your operations, you can use Workflows  -  Knowledge Base which will be replaced soon with Process Author - Administration Guide so you can have a look at it.

We have a Knowledge Base for Workflows: Creating a Task When an Opportunity Closes - Knowledge Base. You can have a look this as well.

The last option you can create a before_save - Developer Guide or after_save - Developer Guide logic hook.

It seems to me reasonable to expect to be able to do this in Process Author, We have no sugar 6 sites so have always avoided workflow due to its pending obsolescence.

I also think that wanting to initiate a Process Author  process once  - when a drop-down field changes to a specific value  - should readily available in Process Author without having to resort to logic hooks.

I can see that I can do it if I add a "Initial Set Up" Check box field to the Opp Header, but was hoping to do it without an extra field. Can you offer any advice?

Also if anyone has any thoughts on Process author "activites" vs "tasks" for simple checklist type tasks.... I am leaning towards activities at present.

Hi Greg,

Definitely, using Process Author is the best choice for your workflows rather than using Workflows.

I'm not sure what did you mean by;

But, after having a conversation with colleague Dennis Wangerin, he pointed me we have a Triggering on "To" and "From" Field values in Process Author - Knowledge Base documentation.

I think this is what you are looking for. If not, if you could give us a step by step action, i would like to test and provide a solution.
