That is correct. If you wanted to add searching by the field to the free-text search bar of a module list view, that would require a custom code change. Modifying the Studio search layout exposes the field as a filter option for the list view and dashlets.

to confirm - after adding these to the search layout, I will be able to search by Company Name in the filter view, rather than i the Module List search bar?

Hi Ada Napierala,

The 'Full Text Searchable' parameter at the field level controls whether users can search by that field's contents in the global search feature in the top header. To adjust which fields are available for list view search, you need to modify the Search layout. Go to Admin > Studio > Leads > Layouts > Search > Search. Drag any fields you want to be searchable to the Default column. More information on modifying the Search layout can be found here:
